EXCLUSIVE!: Fig Kids Spring 2008 Collection Preview

Spring has nearly sprung and that means it is time for mac and cheese, short sleeve tees and “mommy, can we please?” Keeping your little ones clothed and looking cool at the same time can seem like an endless challenge, especially when the styles they are craving for could have been grown with dangerous chemicals. Vancouver-based Fig Kids, younger alternative to the adult-sized Twice Shy line, makes both kids and parents happy.

Made from organic cotton and a small touch of lycra for stretch and durability, the Fig line is on the verge of debuting its Spring/Summer 2008 collection. Here at Victoria-E.com, we’ve got a sneak preview of that collection just for you! As the United States Official Spokesperson for Twice Shy, I’ve got the inside scoop on all of the upcoming Fig goodies, and they are pretty freaking swank if I do say so myself.

Talking with brand designer Jen MacCormack recently, she told me about the inspiration for Fig’s upcoming collection. “There are a lot of 1970s references: rainbows, jumpsuits, striped fabric (which is new for us), rock ‘n roll, view masters, etc. I grew up in the 70s and I just can’t help myself - so many great ideas to play on!” Along with adding striped fabric for the first time, Fig is also premiering its first collection with organic cotton denim jeans. Rumor has it the Spring/Summer 2008 line from Twice Shy will also have organic denim for men and women, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Before I show you some exclusive pictures of the upcoming Spring/Summer 2008 Fig collection for kids and baby, I must send a big congratulations to Michael Ziff (co-founder of Twice Shy) and his wife, who recently brought Ibi Margaret, an undeniably beautiful girl, into this world - much love to all three of you!

Twice Shy Fall 2007 Preview

My favorite eco-fashion brand, Vancouver-based Twice Shy, has a preview of its Fall 2007 collection featured on TreeHugger.com today.

Twice Shy’s signature screen prints are at play once more for leaf-raking weather; autumnal tones of chocolate and mellow rose contrast against bold teal and defiant ochre, while classic lines are punched up by subtle details: a handkerchief hem on a dress, puffed sleeves on a blouse, or ruffles on a skirt.

This will truly be a collection like no other they have released. I just heard from Jen & Michael over at Twice Shy that the line will be in stores/available online in October - I’ll keep you posted on when it goes live in their official online store. Til then, enjoy the images from the TreeHugger post - well, the first 6 are from TreeHugger … all the others are Victoria-E.com exclusives! :)

Help Promote Eco-Fashion!

Co-founder and head designer of Twice Shy, Jen, is one of four finalists for a design competition in Whistler. The winner is chosen by an online vote, so click here and select “Twice Shy”! Slopeside style is not just about rotational tricks. This high-octane runway performance translates the cuspiest cultural apparel into a showcase of signature moves. Joining 18 leading brands in urban-street and lifestyle wear is a West Coast wildcard entry – the BC winner of the Designer Search and Expose contest. An all-out sensory assault. Whistler is the place where mountain people express themselves through their threads, their turns and their taglines, so it’s the obvious Ground Zero for scoping the latest ski, snowboard, street and action wear for 2007/08.

Fashion EXPOSED revolution will explore an urban theme of “freedom of expression” and “power to the people” on your mountain, in your city & throughout the world. With undercurrents of anarchy, grassroots and rebellion Fashion EXPOSED is a movement for the people. Fashion, just like riding, is a way for people to express themselves, and Whistler is a place where people are exploring all the forms of self-expression. My interview with EcoTalk radio

I’m honored to say that I had the chance to be interviewed by eco-media maven Betsy Rosenberg on her EcoTalk radio program yesterday. While doing one of his daily “so eco it’s sick” Google searches, producer Will Craven found my modest site. I was asked to do the show mostly to talk about Twice Shy, but we also covered some of my writing and modeling work as well. A nice list of questions was drawn up to work from during the interview, but we barely got to half of them; nine minutes on-air flies by! Having been years since I’ve been in a studio, it was quite enjoyable to set foot in one again. Will I ever record myself singing again? Who knows what the future holds.

Betsy was very knowledgeable and joyously fierce in wanting to educate the world on green issues. Though we only had two or three minutes to talk before the interview stared, it quickly began clear that she is one of those folks you could spend an entire day talking to over a cup of tea. Despite having a cold and nearly losing my voice, all went smoothly. I honestly don’t remember half of what I said, so I look forward to listening to the segment. Please take the time to give my nine-minute blurb a listen and let me (and the EcoTalk site) know what you think via our comment sections.

If you are interested in reading more info about the program itself and their current troubles, check out my post over at WorldChanging SF.

Another title for my resume

On top of freelance writer, model, and environmentalist, my resume will now have official sponsored spokesperson on it. I received an exciting proposition from one of the founders of Twice Shy (organic fashion for sinners everywhere) this week. What a wonderful feeling to have folks notice my hard work at spreading the news about eco-companies and causes. Other than just wearing their nifty duds and having some cool new green business friends, I’m also working to get the Twice Shy line to stores in the Bay Area.

Simply put, it is freaking sweet to be working with such a cool company. Being green and stylish are one in the same; Twice Shy’s creations prove that. Make sure to check out their website to see their new men and women’s Fall/Winter 2006 line, as well as their newly-discounted (40% off) Spring/Summer collection. With each different season, they feature a different artist’s work on their items. Not only are their items made from sustainable fabrics (mostly organic cotton), but the graphics on them also speak about the current state of our world. On top of that, they also have a kids line called Fig that they released this year, and an underwear line called Once Bitten coming out in 2007.
