Two New Articles On Newsstands

It’s official, I’m starting to take over the world. OK, so I’m exaggerating, but I am excited to have two of my pieces in some swank magazines right now.

First is a piece on greening your office from the industry trade magazine Office Solutions. Yeah, oodles of you won’t be interested in that and probably have never heard of the publication, but the piece itself came out quite fantastic - you can read it here.

Second, I did a profile on eco-beauty blogger Andrea Kane for Venus Magazine’s Summer issue. This is a must-see, especially for those that are into DIY; there’s two homemade beauty recipies to go along with the interview, so pick up a copy ASAP!

A New Focus on Fashion From “THE GREENS”

Who knew coffee filters could be couture? I posted about the premiere of a new online, animated series called THE GREENS back in March. The past few months have brought a fair amount of praise for the program, produced by WGBH Boston. The world’s newest eco-driven family is back with their first full episode, called “Walk the Walk“, and it’s about - you guessed it - fashion. Featuring a down home eco-fashion show, THE GREENS also manage to slip in a tip about saving energy by turning down the temperature on your water heater … slick. :)

Along with the new animated short, there are oodles of pages about the various aspects of sustainable style, such as celebrity sightings, the little brown dress experiement, clothing swap events, futuristic fashion, and plenty more. In conjunction with Zerofootprint, the site has also launched its own kids carbon calculator - a must see for kids, parents, and teachers alike.

Most Huggable #10

Ten, the big 1-0, tentastic, tenalicious, tien, dix, dez, ????, dieci, diez - no matter how you say it, reaching double digits is a pretty swank accomplishment. My tenth apperence in TreeHugger.com’s weekday Most Huggable feature came about today, thanks to my Hugg.com post about Pittsburgh-based green fashion store Equita establishing their online presence.

Celebration time! Organic, vegan cupcakes all around! :D

Paper Dolls Pimp Sustainable Fashion

I love when my random, distracted internet browsing helps me to discover new green style goodies. While looking for more info on a possibly eco-fashion brand I had recently heard of, I was directed to Paper-Doll.com. Before I focused my wardrobe solely on sustainable garments, I frequented this site quite a lot. Most of the brands they carry are based in Canada, all with their own unique style and message.

My eye was immediately drawn to the “Eco/Organic Clothing” button they had featured on their left toolbar.

Eco-conscious fashion doesn’t have to be stiff, shapeless, earth coloured clothes. Paper Doll wants to change that perception. Finally, being conscious and fashionable is possible. In the coming seasons we will be introducing more and more innovative designers using various sustainable/organic fabrics and ethical business models. Look out for more organic cotton, bamboo, soy, tencel / lyocell, recycled fabrics and more.

Seeing small online stores and boutiques like Paper-Doll.com focusing on sustainable style only further shows how far the movement is growing. On top of that, buying from developing, independent companies and designers helps to fuel a more diverse economy, adding more options for those looking to spend green, look good, and do good.

StyleHive.com says I’m a Hot Hiver

Started in good ole San Francisco, StyleHive.com is “a global social shopping community, dedicated to discovering and sharing the most exciting products, the stores that sell them, and the people that find them.” Each week, the great staff choose a member of their website to feature in their blog. Yup, you guessed it, I’m the featured member this week! Head over to the StyleHive blog to check out the nifty little interview they did with me and show some love (aka leave a comment).
